Mount St. Charles Fine Arts Summer Camp
is a two-week, co-ed summer program.

The Intermediate Camp is for boys and girls who are presently in grades 4 to 6.

The Secondary Camp is for students who are presently in grades 7 to 9.

These programs will introduce young people to the fun and excitement of the Fine Arts and develop skills in music, art, dance and drama. Camp dates are July 14 to July 25, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Tuition for the program is $290.00. Brochures will be mailed out the Monday after April vacation. If you have not attended camp before and you would like a brochure mailed to your house please send us an email from this web site and include your home mailing address.

Fine Arts Summer Camp Course Descriptions


Advanced Drama: Develop your acting skills as you focus on using your voice on stage. Improve your emotional range, articulation, and projection by practicing dialogue, performing famous soliloquies, and creating a knock-'em-dead audition monologue.


African Art:  This course will introduce you to African arts and crafts. You will make masks, shields, fan, jingle sticks, rain sticks, do printing on fabric, and create African wire sculpture.


Alchemy: This course combines fun activities in modern science (chemistry and physics) with ancient and mystical arts, such as numerology and cryptography.


All The World's a Stage: This course will help you develop all your dramatic skills - you will learn pantomime, do improv, and collaborate on skits and sketches.


Art Attack!: This hands-on art course will allow you to work in a variety of art media, including 3-D, clay, and paper sculpture.


Band: Study advanced techniques for woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. Rehearse & perform band music of composers from the Baroque period to the 20th century. A minimum of 1 year experience is required.


Beginning Handbells: So you always wanted to play in the bell choir - here is your chance. This class is designed to introduce students to the art of English Handbell Ringing. Learn basic techniques and you will quickly be performing music on a three octave set of Malmark handchimes and a beautiful five octave set of Malmark handbells.


Beginning Jazz Band/Improvisation: Here is your chance to play in a jazz band every day of the week! Explore the world of jazz as you play many classic jazz tunes and improve your skills as a soloist. Learn to blow some mean licks on a blues chorus.


Blue Man Troup: This new course involves creating and performing crazy rhythmical numbers with non-traditional instruments.  From bucket drums, to boomwackers, you will use PVC pipe and things found around your kitchen, and you’ll perform at the end of camp using everything but the kitchen sink.


Body Sculpture: This new course allows you to collaborate in creating life-size body sculptures.  Create a musician, athlete, dancer or skate boarder - maybe you can even be the model for these sculptures, made out of clear tape.  You might even want to add glow lights to yours.


Broadway: This class will help you improve your acting, singing, and dancing skills by having you study, rehearse, and perform a full scale musical. You will combine with two other classes to perform a show at the end of camp.


Can You Dig It?: Learn the basics of planting and landscape design in this FUN AND EXCITING NEW CLASS.  You will design and select materials from catalogs as well as work with your class on your own plot of land at Mount.  Competition will be exciting as you take part in a plant and tree scavenger hunt around school.


Checkmate!: For beginners as well as experienced players, this course will immerse you in the great game of chess. Taught by a nationally ranked Canadian chess player, the course will help you learn the basics as well as advanced strategies of the "game of kings."


Classic Calligraphy: Got s steady hand? Put it to good use as you learn to do fancy lettering in this introduction to the tools and techniques of calligraphy. Give your writing a touch of class!


Cross-stitch: Learn the basics of counted cross-stitch as you begin with a simple but beautiful bookmark and work your way up to a framed project that you will want to hang at your house when camp finishes.


Cut It Out!: In this new class you will combine photos and magazine cut-outs with your own artwork to create funky collages.


Drama-rama!: This high-energy drama class involves a variety of fun drama activities and emphasizes improvisation, group acting, and experimental and avant-guard theatrte. This class will have you thinking and acting outside the box!


Everybody's a Critic:...and you will be, too, when you take this introduction to film criticism course. We will watch, analyze, and discuss movies, and you'll learn the terminology and basic principles of movie criticism. Two thumbs up!


Flag Football: The emphasis is on fun in this popular recreational team competition. Your coaches will make fair teams, and boys and girls are both guaranteed to have a blast as you compete in daily games and week-long team competitions.


The Gathering: Responding to popular demand, we took a lot of campers’ favorite break-time activity and made it into a course. Enter a new world of magic and wizardry as you learn how to play this Magic Cards and compete with fellow campers.


Get Psyched!: This exciting new course is a fun and informative introduction to psychology. Learn about the fascinating world of human and animal behavior as you study and participate in experiments and watch psychology videos.


Handbells: So you always wanted to play in the bell choir -here is your chance. This class is designed to introduce students to the art of English Handbell Ringing. Hip Hop Dance: Here's your chance to dance like famous stars like Outkast. Learn the secrets of "Boy Band" success. Girls, learn to dance like Beyonce and others. No prior dance experience required. Dance to the hottest new songs heard of the radio and seen on MTV! This class is all about fun! Just think how impressed your friends will be when they see you at the next school dance!


Interactive Video: Yes, that's right - we've created a Camp Video Game Room. But this is not for couch potatoes. You'll play intearctive games like Dance Dance Revolution, Intearctive Karaoke, and more!


Japanese Art: This new Japanese Arts and Crafs class will introduce you to such Eastern skills as sumi painting, making fans and kites, cartooning (manga), making traditional masks, and paper sculpture.


Jazz Band/Improvisation: Here is your chance to play in a jazz band every day of the week! Explore the world of jazz as you play many classic jazz tunes and improve your skills as a soloist. Learn to blow some mean licks on a blues chorus.


Jazz Dance: This innovative, cutting edge and high-energy class is designed for the dancer with at least 1 year of dance experience. Experience movement like you never have before while learning the newest leaps, turns and choreography sure to impress anyone. This fast paced dance class will expose the dancer to various styles of jazz with emphasis on technique and style. Join us in this exciting class designed for those who desire the very best dance has to offer - lots of explosive energy, excitement and of course FUN - FUN - Fun! This class offers the opportunity for students to perform at the end of the camp.


Just Shoot Me: This course will introduce you to the art of photography. You'll learn how photography involves so much more than "Say cheese!" NOTE: CAMPERS MUST PROVIDE THEIR OWN CAMERAS (DISPOSABLE IS FINE) AND FILM AND GET THEIR OWN PICTURES DEVELOPED.


Karaoke: Love to sing in the shower? Enjoy imitating your favorite singing stars? Get a kick out of singing with friends? This new course will allow you to show off your pipes. In the second week we'll do our own "American Idol!"


Knitwits: Knitting is becoming popular with people of all ages. Find out why in this new course that will introduce you to this fun and relaxing activity.


Lyrical Dance: This course allows dancers with at least 1 year of ballet and/or jazz the opportunity to express themselves through interpretive dance. This new trend for dance competitions everywhere is the increased exposure to lyrical dance. With emphasis on technique, flexibility, expression and interaction between dancers and their audience, this class is sure to offer a unique learning experience packed with fun for everyone. This class offers the opportunity for students to perform at the end of the camp.


Mathletics: This course takes an active, fun approach to math through mini-mysteries, problem-solving, logic games, and physics experiments.


Mind Games: In this course you'll learn and compete in a variety of interactive group games that will test your knowledge of trivia, improv acting, drawing, and logic. You'll play group games such as Cranium, Apples to Apples, Cadoo, and others.


Mosaic Collage: This new course will teach you to create beautiful mosaics using a variety of materials and media.  You’ll use art supplies, photos, and household items to create intricately patterned works.


Mythbusters: No, you won’t be blowing stuff up, but you will get to explore science-based myths (like the Mentos-in-the Coke Myth) using household items.  You’ll learn the science behind the myth and play Adam and Jamie as you declare myths Confirmed, Plausible, or BUSTED!


Off-the-Wall Art: This class in pattern design will have you creating exciting wall hangings and wallpaper.  Our surface and pattern design expert will have you creating designs in fabric and paper that will be out of this world and off-the-wall.


Party Games: Cara's break-time party games were so popular that we decided to create this course. You'll play Charades, Train Wreck, Blind Man's Bluff, Ultimate Simon Says, Twenty Questions, and many more.


Pottery: Learn how to craft your own creations in clay. This course will take you beyond basic pottery and teach you to create artistic masterpieces, like exotic, colorful African masks. You'll do your own sculpting, painting, and glazing in this fun and informative hands-on course.


Feats Of Clay:  The always colorful world of polymer clay will take shape for you as you begin with simple pins and beads and move up to more complex sculptures. 


Puppetry: This is a fun, creative course – with no strings attached! You will learn to design functional puppets – and you will have a blast conceiving your own mini-puppet shows.


Quilting: You don't have to be old and gray to enjoy the artistic and relaxing craft of quilting. This course will introduce you to the basics of quilting and get you started making your own colorful creations.


Rockappella: This course will introduce you to acappella singing. We'll teach you to sing in a variety of styles and time periods, from do-wop and Beach Boys to barbershop quartet, and boy and girl band harmonies like N'Sync and Destiny's Child.


Rockestra!: This course, intended for musicians with at least 2 years experience on their instruments, will make you a part of the rock-jazz-ska fusion band we call Rockestra. Whatever you play, guitar, bass, drums, brass, piano, or anything else you'll participate in jam sessions, learn some cool versions of popular songs, and perform for campers and family members in a show-stopping Rockestra number at our closing exhibitions.


Scrapbooking: Get in on the latest craft craze - scrapbooking! Design your own book of personal and summer camp memories. You'll learn to use various crafting tools and art media to create a colorful and meaningful book that will preserve your good times with family and friends.


Science X-Plosion: One of our most popular courses is this fun, hands-on class in chemistry.  You will do experiments and create strange compounds using colorful and safe chemicals.


South American Art: This South American arts and crafts class will have you creating Mexican clay figures, weavings, yarn picture, copper pressed art, and papier mache.


Stage Combat : Experience the fun of armed stage combat. Learn to duel on stage in choreographed routines using quarter-staffs - a must for all would-be Hamlets!


Stage Combat II: Experience the fun of armed stage combat. Learn to duel on stage in choreographed routines using swords - a must for all would-be Hamlets!


Stamps, Ink.: This course will teach you a variety of techniques using rubber stamps. Once you learn these, you'll work on your own stamping projects, including cards and pins.


Texas Hold' Em: That's right - here's your chance to enter a big ol' Poker Tournament, as seen on TV. Whether you're a poker beginner or an experienced hustler, you'll learn the ins and outs of no-limits poker. You'll score points for each chip you win and compete for the title of Camp Poker Champ!


3D Design:  Put away your 3-D glasses. Your art is about to jump right off the page! In this class we will explore the unique characteristics of the 3rd dimension as we create realistic and abstract sculptures. Get ready for an "all around" fun experience.


Ultimate Frisbee: This new course features everyone's favorite flying disk. You'll experience a variety of individual and team competitions including Frisbee Golf, Frisbee Horseshoes, and of course, Ultimate Frisbee.


Wacky Weaving: Use everything from rope, yarn and cords to create baskets, rugs, and other woven artworks.  By the end of these two weeks you will be weaving colorful articles you can use as decorations and gifts.


Web Page Design: In this class you’ll get to utilize our new, state-of-the-art computer lab as you learn to create your own web page.  You’ll learn how to design your page with text, pictures and media files.


Wyrd Art: The word will be represented in many artistic ways as you use drawings and found articles to express yourself.  Show your personality through the artistic expression of your name or start with some easier Junk, Color or Bug.


Wearable Art: This class will teach you to create exciting decorative pieces that you can wear. You'll decorate clothing and design jewelry that will make great gifts for friends and family.


Wizardry 101: This course combines fun activities in modern science (chemistry and physics) with ancient and mystical arts, such as numerology and cryptography


Wood and Wire: Using only wood and wire you will create some interesting sculptures that are destined to become part of your own bedroom.  You pick the theme and we will show you how these materials can easily take shape into abstract figures and sculptures.


Whose Line is it Anyway?:This popular course is based on everyone's favorite comedy improv show. You'll learn all the best games and skits in this fast-paced group and individual comedy course. You could be the next Ryan, Colin, or Wayne!
